Oslund Udo Little: Our Commitment to the Pacific Northwest Community

Since 1995, Oslund Udo Little has represented individuals and families throughout Washington and Oregon during some of the most challenging moments of their lives. That commitment doesn’t end with legal representation. We also invest in medical research, survivor advocacy, and community organizations working to improve the lives of people across the Pacific Northwest.

  • No Upfront Costs — Oslund Udo Little operates on a contingency fee structure. This means you pay nothing up front for our services. Instead, we get paid a percentage of your total compensation. If we are unable to recover anything for you, you pay nothing.
  • Beyond advocating for our clients, we also believe meaningful community partnerships create lasting impact by advancing medical research and strengthening survivor advocacy organizations. We remain committed to helping build healthier, safer communities.

Advocating for Families Confronting Life-Altering Hardships

The people who contact Oslund Udo Little are often facing uncertainty about their health, safety, future, or family. Some are coping with a mesothelioma diagnosis or the effects of toxic exposure. Others are seeking answers and accountability after experiencing abuse or other wrongdoing. Whatever brought them to our firm, many are looking for guidance, trustworthy information, and a path forward.

For more than 30 years, our team has represented individuals and families throughout Washington and Oregon in complex cases involving negligence, toxic exposures, and institutional wrongdoing. Legal action can provide accountability, but it doesn’t solve every challenge a family is facing. That’s why we support organizations that advance medical research and expand survivor services.

These values shape our community involvement. We actively aid research efforts and promote organizations that strengthen resources for individuals and families throughout the Pacific Northwest.

Support for Regional Medical Foundations and Patient Advocacy

For our clients facing mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases, access to experienced physicians, specialized treatment, and ongoing research can be just as important as the legal process itself.

Oslund Udo Little has supported the Swedish Thoracic Surgery Fellowship Program for several years, helping train the next generation of thoracic surgeons while advancing research into mesothelioma and other thoracic diseases. That ongoing collaboration earned the firm the Swedish Community Impact Award from the nonprofit healthcare provider in 2022.

Supporting the fellowship means advancing the future of mesothelioma care. As researchers develop new treatments and physicians receive specialized training, future patients may have access to new treatments, physicians with specialized training, and more options than were available to previous generations. Throughout the legal process, we also help connect clients with trusted mesothelioma doctors and treatment centers, and educational resources. We want families to have access to the information they need as they navigate both their medical care and legal claims.

Our commitment to supporting asbestos-related disease research is rooted in the hope that future patients will have access to better treatments, improved quality of life, and greater hope in the fight against mesothelioma and other asbestos-related diseases.

Empowering Local Legal Aid and Civil Rights Organizations

Our firm supports organizations that help protect the rights of individuals facing powerful institutions. Our attorneys actively participate in the Washington State Association for Justice (WSAJ) and the Oregon Trial Lawyers Association (OTLA). These organizations help protect access to the civil justice system while providing education and advocacy that strengthen the rights of people harmed by negligence and institutional misconduct.

We’re also proud to contribute to the Sexual Violence Law Center (SVLC). In 2024, Oslund Udo Little sponsored the Change Makers and Silence Breakers Celebration in Seattle, which raised more than $16,000 to support survivor advocacy. SVLC attorneys connect survivors with legal guidance, safe housing, victim services, and provide other assistance that allows each person to decide what support is right for them.

Strengthening The Pacific Northwest’s Legal Community

Oslund Udo Little believes strong legal communities create stronger advocates for individuals and families throughout Washington and Oregon. We also believe that investing in the legal profession strengthens the communities we serve.

In recognition of her contributions to the legal profession, Vanessa Oslund received the Tom Chambers Trial Lawyer of the Year Award. The honor recognizes attorneys who advance the art and skill of advocacy through exceptional trial work and mentorship. Vanessa’s collaborative approach to advocacy and her commitment to mentoring other attorneys reflect the firm’s belief that when experienced attorneys share their knowledge and mentor future trial lawyers, more families benefit from skilled legal representation.

The following are some of the organizations that benefit from our active involvement which include civic and social service organizations, health and welfare organizations, and youth groups:

Oslund Udo Little Research Fellowship. After more than 25 years representing families affected by mesothelioma, Oslund Udo Little is ensuring that their clients, and other patients like them, can get the best treatment possible by supporting the Swedish Thoracic Surgery program. Patients with mesothelioma, a cancer that attacks the lining of the lungs and other organs, can endure a daunting combination of radiation, surgery and chemotherapy. But thanks to research, more people are living longer with the disease. One of Oslund Udo Little’s founding partners, remembers one client who devoted the six and a half years he lived after his surgery to advocating for other mesothelioma patients before Congress. “He was an incredibly articulate and forceful advocate,” says the original founder, “who wanted to use his limited time to make a difference for other mesothelioma victims.” Eric Vallieries, MD, and his team of surgeons at Swedish Thoracic surgery, provide high level care to mesothelioma victims both in their technical implementation of medicine and through personal care and compassion. Most fellows who join the research program are finishing up general surgical training aiming to move on to thoracic surgery training. Their year-long stint at Swedish provides dedicated time for research. “They get a chance to spend time delving into thoracic surgery and diseases of the esophagus and chest without any other clinical duties,” says Brian Louie, M.D., the director of thoracic research. And while preparing for the next steps in their career, fellows are also driving new developments in the field. “Research advances practice. It may change the way we do things or provide information about clinical problems that other surgeons encounter,” says Dr. Louie. After each physician completes their training, they take all they’ve learned as Oslund Udo Little research fellows wherever they settle. “Our hope is that the physicians we’re training will be the leaders in thoracic surgery around the country,” says Dr. Louie. “We’re grateful for the firm’s support.” For Oslund Udo Little, our support of the Swedish Thoracic Surgery program is another way we can continue to take care of our clients.
